How to set up a web site
Try and do all communication via email, after all if you can't communicate via e-mail then it's not going to work too well as a web site. Talk to two or three designers, see who can communicate clearly with you, they are the ones more likely to communicate well with your customers.
Make sure they are willing and ready to put in writing that you will own the whole site when paid for, the design, graphics, photos, source codes and associated files. Ask if you can choose your own web hosting provider. Ensure that the timeframe for completion is clearly spelt out, all too often web projects drag on for months. The web design should incorporate head tags, these are invisible to the visitors to the site but provide useful information to the search engines. Head tags should not be a separate charge, masquerading as SEO (Search Engine Optimization).
Don't get sucked into the SEO "I can get you onto page one of Google" nonsense. If they really knew how to do it they wouldn't be selling it to you, they'd be retired billionaires. Some use tricks to get you on page one temporarily, but Google soon picks up on it, then you're out of the game.
